For a few years now, a number of individuals and academic programs have come together to form the 'Advancing Indigenous Language Technologies' (AILT) working group: https://ailt.arizona.edu
We would like to extend an invitation to SSILA members and your colleagues, friends and students to participate if you're interested.
We are a loosely organized, informal network of people who think that it's a good idea to work together to support community-based language technology development initiatives, and support Indigenous language communities. We are inviting participation from community members, students, scholars, engineers, others with expertise and/or interest in any or all of the following areas:
Language work (revitalization, reclamation, repatriation, etc.)
Language technology development (human language technologies, natural language processing, software engineering, etc.)
Language policy (data sovereignty, language rights, etc.)
And you can participate in either or both of the following ways:
If you're interested and/or have questions, please contact Amy Fountain (avf@arizona.edu) and I'll be happy to share more info and/or just get you looped in at your preferred level.
